ABC's of Good Vision

The beginning of the school year is the best time for "well child" eye exams. "I recommend a yearly exam for all children," explains Dr. Yeager. "Children seldom complain about their vision because they think everyone sees like thay do, no matter how poorly they see. I hate to see a child struggle in school all year, then find out in March they have a vision problem."

Learning related vision problems in children can be very subtle. Many schools no longer offer free screenings. Most that do screen check only distance visual acuity, so they tend to miss many problems related to reading and computer use.
